New LED replacements for 40-watt bulbs

GE LED 40W BulbToday GE announced a direct replacement bulb for your typical 40W incandescent bulb or 14W compact floresent bulb. The new LED replacement will consume a fraction of the electricity at 9W and is rated at 25,000 hrs.

The high efficiency and long bulb life is nothing new for LEDs but what we feel is major selling point over other 40W replacement LEDs is GE's focus on designing a bulb that disseminates light more evenly. This is critical in the hospitality environment, where style is just as important as efficiency.

More over hotels have been slow to adopt the current energy savings lighting standard - Compact Florescents Lighting (CFLs) because of their warm up times. After CFL swap outs front desks would be inundated with calls from guests regarding how dim rooms were, and the staff would have wait on the phone until the CFLs warmed. In contrast LEDs share the same "instant on" properties as normal incandescent blubs.

The combination of even lighting, long life, high efficiency and instant on of LEDs make this bulb a solid choice to save money with style. Nice work GE!
